Representative Mike Kelly Votes in Support of the Veterans Opportunity Work Act

Washington, D.C. —Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement on his vote last night in support of the Veterans Opportunity to Work Act of 2011 (H.R. 2433), which passed with overwhelming bi-partisan support by a vote of 418-6:

“Our men and women in uniform, who represent only one percent of the U.S. population, make incredible sacrifices to protect and defend the remaining 99 percent of us. The absolute least we can do to show our gratitude is to ensure that our veterans have the resources they need to transition into and compete in the workforce.

“The VOW Act provides our veterans with access to education and training funds, establishes new reporting requirements to better evaluate the effectiveness of federal programs assisting veterans, and identifies the barriers that prevent service-members from finding civilian employment.

“Our veterans, through their courage, selflessness, and commitment to country, represent the best of America. Their talents are many, and the civilian workforce can only benefit from the vast experiences and training gained through their military career.

“The VOW Act is just one of several common-sense solutions that will help get Americans back to work. If Washington works together, putting politics and reelection efforts aside, we can focus on the work and opportunities before us to turn our country around and put us back on a path to prosperity.”
