SHARON, Pa. -- Today, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) met with Board of Directors of Pro-Life of Mercer County at his Sharon District Office. Rep. Kelly and the board members discussed the pro-life movement in a post-Roe v. Wade world and other pro-life initiatives.
I strongly believe in protecting the lives of the unborn. As Americans, our rights are derived from the self-evident, fundamental right to life, which promotes equal rights and equal protection for the unborn. I have long emphasized that promoting pro-life policies and protecting American family values would be a priority of mine while serving the Sixteenth District. I will continue working to promote a culture of life which, among other things, upholds and actively supports pro-life policies.
I’ve been a leader pushing for increased transparency of how taxpayer dollars are spent. I’ve led a series of inquiries into the National Institutes of Health’s funneling of taxpayer dollars into medical research using fetal tissue and I’ve signed the pledge to vote against any government funding bill which doesn’t include the Hyde Amendment. The Hyde Amendment is a long-standing provision barring the use of federal funds to pay for abortions. Similarly, I support the Mexico City policy, which prohibits U.S. taxpayer dollars from funding international organizations which provide abortion services. Unfortunately, both of the important and long-standing policies are in the process of being rolled back by Democrats. In 2021, I also introduced the Heartbeat Protection Act, which prohibits abortions when an unborn child's heartbeat is detected.
There are several important court cases on abortion right now in our nation, including the Whole Woman’s Health v. Jackson case and the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. The Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has major implications for pro-life efforts across the country, and I was proud to be a signer of the Congressional Amicus Brief to the Court in support of pro-life values.
Since being elected to Congress, I have worked to defend life by:
- Protecting the religious freedom of pro-life individuals and organization.
- Opposing taxpayer funding of abortion
- Opposing race and gender based abortions
- Opposing abortion funding in foreign aid
- Opposing abortion of unborn children who can feel pain
