Representative Mike Kelly Votes for Budget Resolution

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement after today’s passage of the House Republican Budget Resolution:

“Our nation’s debt is fast-approaching $16 trillion. Anyone who thinks that we can sit back and do nothing while we continue to go deeper and deeper into the red has got their head deeply buried in the sand. Despite the fact that last year Admiral Mike Mullen, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the greatest threat to our national security was our debt, the president has continued to pursue an unsustainable trajectory of spending that will sink this great nation if left unstopped.

“The House passed a budget today that seriously addresses our debt crisis and the government programs that drive it. It’s a responsible measure the would reduce spending by $5.3 trillion compared to the president’s budget and by $4.15 trillion compared to CBO’s current law baseline.  Most importantly, it would reform our tax code to make it more simple and fair, while reducing our debt and putting our nation on path toward a balanced budget.

“Today my colleagues and I in the House presented the American people with a proposal that works to fix our economic crisis instead of further contributing to it, which the president’s proposal would undoubtedly do.”
