Representative Mike Kelly Meets with Grove City Area High School Graduate Headed for the U.S. Naval Academy this Summer

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) attended a breakfast this morning honoring students from Pennsylvania whom Senator Robert Casey nominated for a 2011 military service academy appointment. Rep. Kelly issued the following statement:

“This morning I had the pleasure of meeting with a group of young men and women who represent the next generation of America’s great military leaders. Among those attending was one of the Third District’s own, Patrick Shaw, a graduate of Grove City Area High School who will begin his appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy this summer.

“Patrick has answered the call to serve at a critical time in our nation’s history. America is at war on multiple fronts, and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women during the global fight against terrorism have been significant. Patrick’s commitment to defend the homeland during these trying times shows a level of courage and self-sacrifice consistent with America’s long tradition of military heroism.

“When I spoke with Patrick’s parents, I saw in their faces the same sense of pride I had when my own son was preparing to leave for West Point many years ago. I share their admiration of and respect for Patrick as he begins this exciting and challenging chapter in his life. He, along with all of our men and women in uniform, will remain in my prayers.”
