Representative Mike Kelly Accepting Applications for Military Academy Nominations
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) is accepting applications from residents of the Third Congressional District interested in being nominated for admission to a military academy. Each year, Members of Congress are able to nominate a limited number of people to four of the five service academies, including: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. It is not necessary to seek a nomination to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut, because the Academy accepts candidates based on their own testing criteria.
To be eligible for a nomination from Representative Kelly, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of the United States by the time you enter a military academy
- Be a legal resident of Pennsylvania’s Third Congressional District
- Be 17 years old, but not yet past your 23rdbirthday on July 1stof the year you enter a military academy
- Have earned an above average academic record
- Have achieved competitive standardized test scores (ACT/SAT)
- Have scored near or above the published averages on the Candidate Fitness Assessment
- Be medically qualified as determined by the Department of Defense Medical Evaluation and Review Board
- Have unquestionable strong moral character and display uncompromising integrity
- Be unmarried, not pregnant, and without legal obligation to support children or other dependants
To request a nomination packet, please contact Melanie Brewer at (814) 454-8190 or visit Representative Kelly’s website at www.kelly.house.gov.
