Rep. Kelly Supports Pay for Furloughed Federal Workers

WASHINGTON — Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today in support of H.R. 3223, the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act, which was approved by the House of Representatives by 407-0.

“Today I joined my House colleagues from both sides of the aisle to guarantee fairness for all federal workers currently affected by the ongoing partial government shutdown. Those 800,000 furloughed employees – including the thousands in Western Pennsylvania – deserve certainty about their means to take care of themselves and their families during this situation which none of them asked to be in. With this bill, no worker’s paycheck will be sacrificed as a result of Washington’s gridlock.

“Over the past week, the House has passed bipartisan legislation to fund pediatric cancer research, military pay, veterans' benefits, federal disaster relief, fairness for furloughed workers, assistance for low-income mothers and young children, and to reopen our nation's parks, monuments, and memorials. While President Obama and Majority Leader Reid till refuse to negotiate with anyone, the least they could do is put Americans before stubborn politics and grant these essential bills the support they deserve.”

NOTE: This bill is the eighth piece of bipartisan legislation passed by the House of Representatives to fund critical operations of the federal government during the ongoing lapse in federal appropriations. A complete list can be viewed here.
