Rep. Kelly to Speaker Pelosi: Release All Impeachment Deposition Transcripts

Nov 6, 2019

Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, Representative Mike Kelly sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi demanding the release of the transcripts of all depositions conducted by the House Intelligence Committee since she announced the impeachment inquiry in September.

"Despite the vote in the House on October 31, House Democrats continue to conduct the partisan effort to impeach the President in secret," wrote Kelly. "Your duty to the Constitution and the American people, as well as fundamental fairness, requires that you immediately release the full transcripts of all depositions taken since you pronounced the beginning of an impeachment inquiry on September 24, 2019."

House Democrats voted last week to pass H.Res. 660, a resolution to formalize the impeachment inquiry that began on September 24, 2019. The resolution established rules for public hearings in the next phase of their partisan investigation. Kelly voted against the resolution and viewed it as an attempt to "legitimize the unfair inquiry already underway" and little more than a"mirage of fairness, transparency, and due process,"

Kelly sees Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff's actions this week as validation of those characterizations. Schiff has continued to selectively release information and conduct behind closed doors hearings despite the vote to make the impeachment probe public.
