Kelly statement on the conclusion of the Hanoi Summit

February 28, 2019

WASHINGTON – Following the end of the Hanoi Summit, Congressman Mike Kelly (R-PA), co-chair of the Congressional Korea Caucus, issued the following statement:

Peace on the Korean peninsula is among the most critical foreign policy goals of the United States. President Trump once again made clear his commitment to resolve this standoff by agreeing to negotiate with Kim Jong-un and displayed courage by refusing to accept a bad deal. The North Korean leader sought relief from sanctions in a proposal that did not include complete and verifiable denuclearization of his regime, which is unacceptable for the U.S. and our friends and allies. I will support the president’s continued efforts to resolve this threat to global security.
