Representative Mike Kelly Votes in Support of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act

Washington, D.C. —Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) released the following statement regarding House passage of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 2250), which Rep. Kelly co-sponsored:

“While the EPA may have had the best intentions when devising its Boiler MACT rules, the design was flawed and the goals unachievable.  For the thousands of factories and facilities across the country whose boilers would be affected by the new regulations, the cost of compliance is estimated at more than $14 billion. To cover the costs of this new red tape, employers would have to lay off tens of thousands of employees and pass the cost on to the consumer by charging higher prices for their goods and services.

“I have no problem with our need to regulate, but it has to be done within reason and without wreaking economic havoc on industries that are already struggling to survive in our weakened economy.

“H.R. 2250 would stay these job-crushing rules, allowing the EPA enough time to re-work the rules so that they are less flawed and will give manufacturing facilities more time to comply with these complex and capital-intensive requirements. This bill is about measuring twice and cutting once, and saving thousands of jobs in the process.”
