The unfolding horror in Afghanistan is a sobering reminder of the evil in this world. It is particularly tragic as we approach the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2011. Our Afghan friends who have been fighting side by side with Americans against the Taliban for nearly two decades are once again living under tyranny and the lives of U.S. citizens who remain in the country are at great risk.

Communities throughout America, including Erie, would greatly benefit from this plan.

In 1964, I walked into the visitors’ locker room at Academy High School in Erie on a Friday night to suit up for one of western Pennsylvania’s greatest traditions, a high school football game. Fast-forward to 52 years later to 2016 when I walked into that same locker room as a member of Congress.

Communism is the single most destructive political ideology in the history of the world.

While I support federal funding for women’s health, I do not believe, and a majority of Americans do not believe, that taxpayer dollars should fund abortions. Despite the fact that it is illegal to spend federal taxpayer dollars on abortion, there is increasing concern that abortion providers who receive federal funds are using that money to help support their abortion practices. That is why I am working to end all taxpayer funds for abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion provider.

Have you ever wondered just how significant the Great Lakes are to Erie, western Pennsylvania and the United States as a whole? They make up the largest grouping of freshwater lakes and comprise approximately one-fifth of the world’s fresh water.

These lakes provide 30 million Americans with drinking water, support more than 1.5 million jobs, offer recreational opportunities that draw millions of tourists each year, and are home to thousands of plant and animal species. The Great Lakes are an American national treasure.
