Representative Mike Kelly’s Statement on the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Washington, D.C.—Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) released the following statement in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:

“Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of America’s greatest civil rights leaders who fought heroically to end discrimination of any shape or form. The Reverend King preached a message of nonviolence during a time when tensions were high and divisions ran deep. While his work was rooted in peaceful activism, his life ended tragically in the very violence and hatred he spoke against.  Today, as our nation continues to grieve the senseless loss of life that took place during the attempted assassination of Congresswoman Giffords, let us keep in mind Dr. King’s transcending legacy of hope and love and the promise of a better tomorrow.”
