Representative Mike Kelly Issues Statement on the White House’s Newest Proposed CAFE Standard Rule

Washington, D.C. —Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement in response to today’s announcement on the White House’s newest proposed CAFE standard rule:

“For an administration that considers itself the ‘most transparent’ in America’s history, it’s troubling to see the latest proposed CAFE standard rule announced today by the White House. The standards put forward in this agreement were negotiated with a level of secrecy that should concern all Americans, especially consumers who will be hit with considerable out-of-pocket costs as a result of this new rule. Had the administration followed the prescribed administrative process to arrive at these standards, we would have a better sense of the calculations and considerations that went into the decision-making process.

“As a member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, I will continue to look into this latest Obama regulation, which will cost more than $150 billion to implement, and will raise the cost of vehicles by several thousand dollars. Now is not the time to add more financial burden to already cash-strapped, hard-working families, especially when it’s done without clear justification.”
