Representative Mike Kelly Issues Statement on August Employment Report
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement on the August employment report released today:
“Not since 1945, the year World War II ended, has the government reported that the nation’s job market showed zero net monthly growth. This is a sobering indication of just how stagnant our economy is, and just how uncertain job creators and investors are about our financial future. We have to remove this uncertainly and restore confidence in the American economy, which is still the largest in the world and which is still home to the greatest and most innovative workforce in the world.
“As our nation prepares to pay tribute this Labor Day to the tremendous accomplishments of American laborers, let us also remember the nearly 14 million Americans who cannot find work, and the millions more who are underemployed. May we come together as a nation in a spirit of unity to do what needs to be done to create jobs and get our nation back on a path to prosperity.
“We’ve overcome great economic challenges throughout the course of our nation’s history; that’s simply the American way. We now need to focus on what has and hasn’t worked in our past attempts to stimulate our economy, and be sure not to repeat the mistakes of the past so that we don’t further compromise our future.”
