Representative Mike Kelly Issues Labor Day Statement

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following Labor Day statement:

“Labor Day is a time when Americans of all walks of life take time to reflect on America’s greatest resource: her people and their unrivaled work ethic. From educators to engineers, bricklayers to bankers, welders to wheat farmers, our nation’s strength lies in the many and varied talents of our workforce. Americans have always taken pride in their work, which we see in the quality products we make and in the top-rate services we provide.

“While we recall today the many accomplishments of American laborers, let’s also look forward to the endless possibilities that lie ahead. The spirit of innovation has always guided us and will continue to do so as we seek new opportunities to grow our economy and expand the American workforce.  With 14 million Americans out of work and millions more underemployed, we have to fight for the American worker like never before.

“By opening new markets to American goods and services, harnessing the vast natural resources of our land, and creating a more fair tax code that levels the playing field and increases revenues, we can put our nation on a path toward prosperity and start to put Americans back to work.  While our nation’s unemployment rate sits at 9 percent, it’s time to take a stand against the failed policies of the past and look for solutions that work, so that the millions unemployed may do so as well.”
