Representative Kelly Votes for Bi-Partisan Agreement to Keep Government Open and Work toward the Largest Annual Spending Cut in American History
Washington, D.C. — Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) released the following statement on this morning’s vote to pass a “bridge” funding measure that avoids a government shutdown and allows House and Senate leaders time to legislatively formalize a long-term budget for fiscal year 2011:
“Tonight was another small step toward putting our nation on a pathway to prosperity that will help our economy grow and create jobs for the millions of Americans who have been out of work for far too long.
“Not only did we avert a government shutdown, but we set the framework for a long-term funding measure for fiscal year 2011 that will include $38.5 billion in spending cuts, the largest annual spending cut in American history.
“While today we’re talking about spending cuts in the billions, tomorrow we’ll start talking in terms of trillions. With the nation $14 trillion in debt, we have no choice but to deal with Washington’s spending addiction today or let our children and grandchildren deal with it tomorrow.
