Rep. Kelly Participates in 41st Annual March for Life Festivities

January 23, 2014

WASHINGTON — Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today after participating in festivities for the 41st annual March for Life on the National Mall and on Capitol Hill.

“The weather may have been freezing, but the crowd at today’s rally was white hot with passion for defending the blessing of human life. It was nothing less than inspiring to see so many Americans – especially young people – bear the bitter cold to let the entire nation know that the pro-life movement is alive, thriving, and more prepared than ever to stand up for the wellbeing of unborn children and expectant mothers. I was especially grateful to be joined throughout the day by so many fellow Pennsylvanians, many of whom enthusiastically attend this march with their loved ones every single year.

“Despite what some may absurdly claim, those who believe in the fundamental right to life of all of God’s children are not just firmly in the mainstream but indeed part of our nation’s founding fabric. Since the beginning, ours has been a government designed to secure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all of its people. A society which does not value life – especially that of its most vulnerable and defenseless – only undermines every other right which its people enjoy. It is for this reason that over the course of history the United States has thrived while the societies and systems which most devalued life ultimately faltered and fell. And it for this reason that the fight for life must be steadfast, and prevail.

“As we move forward, I encourage all defenders of life to continue the fight with open hearts and open arms, and to lead others to our cause with compassion and understanding. The future we seek is one where the life and dignity of every person – born and yet to be born – is celebrated and protected, and that is a future about which we must remain, above all, happily optimistic.”
