Rep. Kelly Commends Advance of Obamacare Repeal Bill to President’s Desk

January 7, 2016

Rep. Kelly: “The end of Obamacare is just one pen stroke away”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) – a member of the House Ways and Means Committee – issued the following statement today in advance of House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) signing H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Act, which will occur during an official ceremony in the U.S. Capitol later today, which Rep. Kelly will attend.

“Later today, the People’s House will be officially sending the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Act to the White House. This bill will repeal the very core of Obamacare, including the Individual Mandate, the Employer Mandate, the Medical Device Tax, the tax on so-called ‘Cadillac’ plans, the Obamacare ‘slush fund,’ and much more. It will also properly eliminate taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.

“This marks the first time ever that legislation to repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood is being sent to the president's desk. For nearly five years, obstructionists in the Senate have blocked almost every single House-passed repeal bill, no matter how popular or sensible they were. Not this time. Thanks to our efforts during the reconciliation process, the end of Obamacare is now just one pen stroke away.

“Now that Congress has fulfilled its mandate from the American people, the nation will see where the true source of obstruction in Washington actually exists. President Obama can either side with his costly, job-killing law that most Americans never wanted in the first place, or he can side with the millions of Americans unfairly being hurt by it. The first step toward better health care and a stronger economy has never been so close.”
