Kelly Votes Against Resolution Calling on Vice-President Pence to Invoke 25th Amendment

January 12, 2021

Washington, D.C. - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution calling on Vice-President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from the oval office. U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) voted against the resolution and released this statement:

"The 25th Amendment is a tool to transfer power if a president is physically unable to discharge their duties, which is not the current situation. I don't believe the House of Representatives should be asking Vice-President Mike Pence to unconstitutionally seize power from an elected president in the final week of his term. Thankfully, the vice-president has already told Congress he will not do so for the sake of unity, healing, and fidelity to the Constitution."
