Kelly honors Zelienople woman as 'Community Champion'

October 4, 2022

ZELIENOPLE, Pa. -- On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) presented his latest 2022 Community Champion Award to Adel Fatur of Zelienople, Pa. at the Zelienople Historical Society.

Rep. Kelly is recognizing Ms. Fatur for her volunteer work throughout Zelienople and Butler County, notably her efforts to bring the traveling Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to Zelienople; and her volunteer service with local organizations, including the Red Hat Society and Zelienople Historical Society. She is perhaps best known throughout Butler County as the "Flag Lady" for selling and placing flags at the 4 Corners Park in July 2021. Not only did she exceed her flag goal, but her effort landed Zelienople into the Guinness Book of World Records.

"Adel exemplifies what it means to be a Community Champion," Kelly said. "As I started to learn more about what she has done for the Zelienople area, I had to ask myself 'what hasn't she done?' I'm proud to honor Adel with this award because her selfless acts are improving the community and Butler County as a whole. We need more people like Adel Fatur."
