Rep. Kelly Supports the SKILLS Act

March 15, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today in support of H.R. 803, the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act, a bipartisan plan to reform and modernize federal workforce development programs.

“With unemployment still so painfully high, especially in Western Pennsylvania, it is imperative that aspiring workers have as few obstacles between them and the jobs they seek as possible. The SKILLS ACT tears down needless bureaucratic roadblocks that only make it harder for men and women to access the job training and education they need to succeed. In fact, today’s bill streamlines more than 30 federal development programs into a new, single Workforce Investment Fund which will be tailored to the specific needs of individual workers and the most in-demand industries. By providing a central source of support to Americans ready to work, we can reduce unemployment, safeguard tax dollars, and trim burdensome government bulk all at the same time.”
