Rep. Kelly Introduces Charitable Giving Extension Act

September 19, 2013

WASHINGTON — Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement today after introducing H.R. 3134, the Charitable Giving Extension Act, which would allow taxpayers to deduct their charitable contributions of the previous tax year until April 15 of the following year, in order to coincide with tax filing deadlines. According to studies by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, 88 percent of U.S. households donate to some form of charity.

“Today I was proud to introduce a quintessentially American bill. Voluntarily giving to others in need is a hallmark of the American character and part of what makes our country great. Our laws should encourage it and seek to make such generosity as easy to carry out as possible. The Charitable Giving Extension Act would incentivize more charitable giving while enabling Americans to save more money. I encourage all of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support it.”
