Rep. Kelly Statement on 75th Anniversary of Attack on Pearl Harbor
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today to mark the 75th anniversary of the surprise attack by Japan on U.S. Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
“Seventy five years and multiple generations later, America still remembers what happened on December 7th, 1941. On that bright Sunday morning, less than three weeks before Christmas, the combined forces of death, treachery, and evil transformed a season of happiness into a period of pain, shock, and sorrow. While our nation’s knees were bent in mourning, a generation of heroes prepared to rise to its feet and answer history’s call. While darkness engulfed our country and plunged us into a worldwide war, it was the blazing light of our Greatest Generation's selfless patriotism that shined through and ultimately led us to save civilization from tyranny. Just like after 9/11 six decades later, the United States showed the entire world that no matter what harm may be inflicted upon us, there is no threat, no force, and no tyrant anywhere that can keep us down for long or ever extinguish freedom's fire.
“On this infamous anniversary, let us always remember the courage and heroism of those who perished at Pearl Harbor, and the cause for which they lived, died, and fought. We must never forget their sacrifice, their example, their love of country, and the enduring lesson that freedom must always be defended from evil.”
