Rep. Mike Kelly Votes in Support of the STOCK Act

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement on his vote today in support of the House amendment to the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act (STOCK Act), which passed the House with near unanimous support by a vote of 417 to 2:

“It is a gross violation of the public trust for any office holder or public official to use his or her position to profit from information that is not available to the public. The STOCK Act will work to prevent any form of insider trading by strengthening the laws we already have in place, including the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 and the Ethics in Government Act;  adding additional transparency measures through new, online reporting requirements; and applying the ban to all legislative, executive, and judicial branch officials and members of their staff.

“The STOCK Act will work to restore the public’s confidence in our system of government, which has, at times, been lost or shaken by the unethical and illegal practices of politicians and government officials who have shamefully violated the trust of the American people, as well as the laws of our land.”
