Rep. Kelly Issues Statement on October Jobs Number

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement on the October job report released this morning:

“The news today that the unemployment rate rose to 7.9 percent last month should come as no surprise. Our economy is experiencing the worst recovery since the Great Depression, and we have policies coming out of Washington that are quite frankly holding us back, preventing the type of growth we need to create jobs and get Americans back to work.

“We cannot continue down this path of record unemployment, historically high debt, and unprecedented government growth. It’s a formula for disaster, and it’s a foundation for the economic decline of America.

“If we are going to turn our nation around, restore hope to the tens of millions of Americans who are out of work or underemployed, renew the promise of the American Dream, and reduce our nation’s staggering $16 trillion debt, we have to abandon the failed policies of these past four years. The unemployment numbers tell the story of where we’ve been, but they don’t have to determine where we’re going.

“That is up to us, and we can not only hope for brighter days, but we can make them happen.”
