WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-3) issued the following statement today regarding his office’s selection of Yvonne English as advisor for the 2014 Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academic Competition, also known as “the House App Contest.” Ms. English is the co-founder and Executive Director of the eCenter@LindenPointe in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA), is a certified GrowthWheel consultant, and has earned her NBIA Business Incubation Management Certificate. Additionally, she is the Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Grove City College, her alma mater.

“I am very pleased to announce Yvonne English as the advisor of this year’s STEM competition. Her expertise in the fields of business and computer technology will be put to tremendous use as she mentors this year’s participants and overseas the contest proceedings. With full awareness of how vital this program is for encouraging creativity among our District’s younger minds, I am truly grateful to have Ms. English on board. I look forward to seeing what products our students will create and wish each of them the very best of luck.”

NOTE: The Congressional STEM competition is designed to engage students’ creativity and encourage their participation in STEM education fields. Established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this competition is a nationwide event that allows high school students from across the country to compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. Throughout the completion period, participating students will be provided opportunities to engage with various STEM educational partners located within the community to mentor and assist them with their app development. The “House App Contest” is open to all high school students in Pennsylvania's Third Congressional District. More information can be found at the House App Contest page at Rep. Kelly’s official website here.
