Kelly: President Trump is “right man, right time, right now”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) – a member of the House Ways and Means Committee – appeared on Fox & Friends on Fox News Channel and Cavuto: Coast to Coast on Fox Business Network on Friday, February 17, 2017, to discuss his meeting with President Trump on the preceding day at the White House, as well as top agenda items of Congress and the Trump administration including regulatory reform, tax reform, and the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

Rep. Kelly on Fox & Friends:

“I love coming from the private sector and sitting down with the president, who is from the private sector and knows how to get things done. He doesn’t lecture; he goes ahead and gets it done.”

“I have so many friends who are in the coal business. When you see what the previous administration did to the coal business, and did to the people who were their backbone—we’re talking about coalminers and telling those people, ‘You don’t have a job anymore, and you know what? We’ll find something else for you to do’. Well you know what they said? ‘I think we’ll look for another person, another boss, that knows what to do and get it done, get us back in the mine, get American back on track again, and make America great again.’ That’s exactly what this president is doing. It’s exactly what the country needs: right man, right time, right now.”

“Back home [in Western Pennsylvania] the president is stronger today than he was on November the 8th. He’s gaining momentum. And who’s he gaining momentum with? Not the media because they’re never going to believe this is a guy who should’ve been elected. That’s just not who they are. They don’t know how to handle him, and when he talks with them, he’s toying with them. And they can’t take that. They want people to kind of fall in line. This is a president that knows where he’s going, knows how to get there, and why? Because he’s actually done it on his own dime and on his own time.”

Rep. Kelly on Cavuto: Coast to Coast:

“This is a president who’s an action figure—he’s not comfortable with things going slowly. And I think we have to do things quickly but we don’t have to be in a hurry. We have to make sure it’s right. Look what happened the first time [health care reform] got done.”

“I’m from the private sector, and for the private sector, if you wait too long, the only thing that comes to you is cold pizza. You better make sure you get it there early, and get it there hot and get it there with something the people can digest. We have everything in place but we have to move.”

“I’m going to suggest this: the Affordable Care Act was something that got rushed through. Big pieces of legislation take a little bit more time. And, again, I’m going to go back to this: we know what we have to do to get the economy started. … When it comes to tax reform—is it pro-growth tax reform? And does it actually move the country forward? This is a president who’s expecting big things from the people [in Congress]. We’re going to be working very hard to get to that end.”

“For me, tax reform, then health care reform—both of them are very important. They both are at the highest priorities. I don’t think we should have a problem with walking and chewing gum.
