Rep. Kelly Welcomes Pope Francis to the US

September 22, 2015

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today regarding the arrival of His Holiness Pope Francis to Washington, DC, for the Pontiff’s six-day Apostolic Journey to the United States of America.

“My wife Vicki and I join all Americans in joyfully welcoming Pope Francis to the United States today. The Holy Father is not only the leader of our universal church but also a leading beacon of morality and compassion in a world in desperate need of both. His storied 30-month papacy has inspired millions around the globe to remember Christ's commandment to love one another, especially the most defenseless and vulnerable among us, and to live by His will accordingly. Through his modest example and signature humility, Pope Francis reminds us that faith in God precedes all other possessions and can unite mankind, wherever we dwell. It is with tremendous excitement that I await His Holiness's words to our nation when he addresses a joint meeting of Congress later this week. As the Pontiff travels from landmark to landmark on this historic visit, I wish him a safe and successful journey.”
