Rep. Kelly Supports the House “Path to Prosperity” Budget
WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today in support of the “Path to Prosperity,” the House-passed budget resolution for fiscal year 2014 authored by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI).
“Today I was proud to vote for a responsible plan that will grow our economy, solve our debt crisis, and ensure that future generations will inherit a secure and prosperous America. This plan will balance the federal budget in just ten years, thereby forcing Washington to start following the same rule as every American family and business and begin living within its means. It will also increase household income by $1,500 this year, create 500,000 jobs by the end of next year, and lead to the creation of 1.7 million jobs by the end of 2023.
“The nation is facing serious problems right now: our national debt is quickly approaching $17 trillion; our economy is growing far too slowly and producing far too few opportunities for younger Americans; our cherished health and retirement security programs are on the road to bankruptcy. These are not talking points to be debated but facts to be dealt with – and the House budget deals with them. By lowering tax rates for all Americans, and making the tax code fairer and simpler, we will help new businesses flourish, increase wages, and put Americans back to work. By strengthening and protecting Medicare as our plan does, we will guarantee that this important promise to our seniors is fully kept for generations to come.
“Growing our economy, cutting wasteful spending, and preserving our obligations to the poor and elderly are tasks of paramount importance. Regrettably, only one side in Washington seems to be taking them seriously. After failing to pass a budget of their own for four straight years, the Democratic majority in the Senate has proposed an irresponsible plan that never balances the budget and raises taxes by $1.5 trillion; the only thing their plan will grow is our national debt.
“In order to save the American dream for today and tomorrow, it is my sincere hope that the president and his party will come to their senses and help us put America back on a path to prosperity.”
